Safer marketplace habits

Safety is a shared responsibility.

Caribbsearch provides moderation, reporting, messaging, and security tools, but marketplace users still play an important role in protecting themselves. Take time to verify people, offers, products, services, and payment arrangements before moving forward.

What you do

Verify before you act

No platform can guarantee every person, offer, or transaction. The habits below are the checks that keep you protected, especially where money, personal information, employment, or in-person meetings are involved.

Habits that protect you

Read before you buy or sell

Verify before you pay

Confirm what is being offered, the condition or scope of the item or service, the price, availability, location, and payment terms. When practical, inspect physical items before paying and make sure the person or business you are dealing with matches the information provided.

Do not let urgency replace verification

Scammers often create pressure by claiming that an offer will disappear immediately, payment must be sent within minutes, or there is no time to check the details. A legitimate transaction should allow reasonable time for questions and verification.

Be cautious with advance payments

Use extra caution when someone demands gift cards, cryptocurrency, wire transfers, unusual deposits, money sent to a third party, or payment before you have a reasonable opportunity to verify the offer. These payment methods can be difficult to reverse.

Protect your personal information

Never share account passwords, verification codes, banking credentials, full payment-card information, or identity documents in an ordinary listing or message. Caribbsearch will not need your password or verification code to help you with a marketplace transaction.

Watch for overpayment scams

Be cautious if someone claims they accidentally paid too much, sends more than the agreed amount, or asks you to return part of a payment through another method. Confirm that any payment is legitimate and fully settled before returning money.

Be careful with job and business offers

Be suspicious of jobs that require you to pay large upfront fees, receive or move money for another person, purchase equipment through an unfamiliar payment method, or provide sensitive financial information before the employer has been reasonably verified.

Meet safely when appropriate

For transactions that involve meeting in person, choose an appropriate public location when practical, tell someone where you are going, avoid carrying unnecessary cash or valuables, and leave if anything about the situation feels unsafe.

Keep communication clear

Use Caribbsearch messaging when available so questions and answers stay connected to the listing. Be cautious when someone immediately pushes you to another platform, requests unusual personal information, or refuses to answer reasonable questions.
